Dr Price’s Total Health Tips
Tip #3: B1

Why Does your Body Need Vitamin B1?

Vitamin B1 is part of the Vitamin B-complex.  It is utilized in nerve activity and in the basic energy cycle of the cells.  B1 demands the presence of the other B vitamins to work.  It will steal and burn them from anyplace it can get them, causing a B-complex deficiency.  These deficiencies can increase the sensation of stress and can cause irritability, difficulty sleeping and trouble with concentration. This also can cause an increase in negative mental activity and "bad dreams".  If you don't have enough B-complex, B1 does not work.
When all the B-complex is balanced and you take B1 it tends to lead to clarity of thought and problem solving and a feeling of well being.  B complex works in unison with proper nutrition and it should also be taken with minerals, especially calcium.

When should B1 be taken?

You should begin with 50 mg. of B-complex with the morning meal and then 500 mg. of B1 at night before bed or prior to any intense mental technique such as study, heavy problem solving such as exams, intense computer work or spiritual counseling, etc.

If 500 mg. of B1 doesn't do the trick, you can take another 500 with lunch.  There is no limit to the amount of B1 that can be used daily as any extra will be dumped out through the kidneys. 500-1000 mg. before bed can even enhance your sleep. B5 is another great B vitamin.  More about that one later.
